Tiger Hillstream Loach

Sewellia lineolata

Size: Around 5 cm.
Lifespan: Unknown.
Food: Algae and small invertebrates.

Dependent on water currents

The tiger hillstream loach lives in large schools and depends on fast-flowing water. It prefers to stay near angular stones in steep-sloped areas on the bottom of the Sekong River in Southeast Asia with its tropical climate. The tiger hillstream loach has a flat underside which makes it easier to suck onto stones and rocks when there are strong water currents.

The eggs are dispersed in flowing water

Tiger hillstream loaches can be aggressive towards each other. The males guard their territories fiercely and court the females intensively. The fertilized eggs are dispersed in flowing water and the fry are left to fend for themselves. With its ability to hold onto stones and graze algae, the tiger hillstream loach is a popular aquarium fish.

The Tiger Hillstream Loach is popular in aquariums because of its appetite for algae.
