Thought to be extinct

Just like many other cichlids in Madagascar this species is also extremely endangered. The pinstripe menarambo was thought to be extinct in the wild but then it was found in a river in Madagascar.

It is overfished and environmental problems are destroying its habitat. Implanted species are also taking over the cichlids’ habitat.
