We put beds everywhere, everywhere, everywhere
Lotte Ehrenstråle 1917–2016
When Malmö Museum became a refugee centre
Lotte Ehrenstråle was working there as a curator.
She also gave guided tours to children and students.
Lotte has described what she said to the refugees:
“How young you all are!”
They answered:
“We are the ones who survived.”
She remembers the little girl Irene,
how she played and ran about.
She also remembers the Chinese colonel, Nadine Hwang, who appeared tall and dignified to her.
Once Lotte lent her spectacles to a refugee.
Their own spectacles had been taken from them
in the concentration camps.
When the woman got to try on Lotte’s spectacles
she just exclaimed “Ahhhh!”
