Saved from smugglers

Kleinmann’s tortoise is in danger of extinction. Someone tried to smuggle one of the tortoises that are in this terrarium into Sweden without a permit. But Swedish Customs found the tortoise. After a police investigation the tortoise was given into the care of Malmö Museer.

Lives in the desert

The Egyptian tortoise, or Kleinmann’s tortoise, lives in the desert. Its yellowish-green colour protects the tortoise from the sun and also helps to hide it from predators.

At the hottest and coldest times of day the tortoise hides itself in hollows under the desert bushes.
