Zona

Bedotia geayi

Size: 8-10 cm.
Lifespan: Unknown
Food: Insects and other invertebrates.

Thrives in clear water

The zona, also called the red-tailed silverside, is a species of Madagascar rainbowfish that is happiest in shaded rainforest streams with clear water. The fish lives only in Madagascar and is an endangered species. Humans have destroyed its habitat in many ways. When trees are chopped down, the soil is washed away by the rain, making the streams and rivers muddy. The water temperature can also increase.

Invasive species

As the environment changes, species that do not originally belong to Madagascar have been enabled to survive better than the zona. Species that have been relocated by humans and become a problem for native species are called “invasive”. Various invasive species are a major environmental problem all over the world.
